The Fort Hays State baseball team received votes in the NCAA Division II Preseason National Rankings. Two schools from the MIAA are in the national rankings, which includes Central Missouri at No. 3 and Emporia State at No. 13. 

The Mules and Hornets were the top two teams in the conference last year. Fort Hays State and Missouri Southern received votes. Nebraska-Omaha, the third place team from the MIAA last year, did not report in time, so they were not referenced in the poll.

The Tigers will have a tough schedule right out of the gates, when they face Arkansas Tech and the defending national champion Southern Indiana on opening day in Russellville, Ark. Southern Indiana is the preseason No. 1 ranked team in the national poll. Southern Indiana finished with a record of 52-14 last year and Arkansas Tech finished at 35-19. The Tigers play Arkansas Tech the following day to finish their 3-game opening weekend.

Fort Hays State will be on the road for its first six games this year and is not scheduled to play a home game until the first weekend of March. With the addition of Lincoln University this year to the MIAA, the conference schedule has grown to 44 games.
