Each school will be allowed just one entry at each weight, so all 10 weight classes will have no more than eight wrestlers competing for the championship at each weight.

Fort Hays State and Labette Community College were the dominant teams in this event last year. Six individuals from FHSU won their respective weight classes (Tommy Edgmon-125, Travis Kuhn-133, Andre Harrison-141, Blake Malloy-165, Chance Rencountre-184, Justin Glenn-285), while LCC wrestlers claimed the four other weight classes (Raufeon Stots-149, Chase Nelson-157, Chad Wright-174, Walker Clarke-197). Fort Hays State edged Labette in the team points race 134.5 to 126. All other schools competing tallied less than 100 points.

FHSU, the defending Kansas Cup champions, is ranked 19th in the most recent NCAA DII poll.  Three of Kansas' NJCAA schools are referenced in their most recent poll, Labette at 4th, Northwest Kansas Technical College at 18th and Colby at 20th.  While not ranked, Baker was receiving votes in the most recent NAIA rankings.
