Mitch Sahlfeld and
Max Alonso dominated the throwing events at the Jayhawk Classic on Friday (Jan. 28). Sahlfeld won the weight throw, while Alonso won the shot put.
Sahlfeld was just a quarter inch behind his school record in the weight throw, topping the field with a toss of 62-feet, 5-inches. He threw 62-feet, 5.25-inches the previous week to set the new record. Alonso also had a nice showing in the event, finishing third and picking up a provisional mark with a throw of 60-feet, 9.5-inches. Sahlfeld is currently ninth on the national performance list and Alonso ranks 16th.
Alonso had a throw of 56-feet, 1-inch to top the shot put field. He is now ninth on the national performance list in the event. Sahlfeld finished second with a toss of 53 feet, but now ranks 14th on the national list.
Sahlfeld and Alonso are the only FHSU men's athletes with provisional marks at this point in the indoor season.
