Bergmann Breaks Record Again; Algrim Victorious at Jayhawk Classic

Results

Christa Bergmann, senior from Concordia, Kan., set the school record in weight throw for the third time this year with a toss of 60-feet, 10.5-inches at the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan., on Friday (Jan. 28). Her toss topped the mark she set last week of 58-feet, 9.5 inches.

Bergmann's throw vaulted her to third on the national performance list and gave her an automatic qualifying mark in the event to guarantee a trip to the national championships in March. She is the first FHSU track athlete to gain an automatic qualifying mark this year. Even with the magnitude of the throw, she still finished second in the event to NCAA Division I athlete Lauren Noe of South Florida, who threw 61-feet, 5.75-inches.

Amie Algrim picked up Fort Hays State's only win in women's competition. She topped a field of nine runners in the 1000-meter run in a time of 3:13.02.

Gabriella Saravia picked up a provisional mark in her first official competition with FHSU in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, 5.75-inches. However, she'll need to improve on that as it ranks 20th in the nation overall. Morgan Witzel already has a provisional in this event of 5-feet, 6-inches, which sits 11th in the nation.

Darcie Schmitz owns the third-best jump nationally in the long jump and 12th-best mark in the triple jump. The marks are provisionals in both events. Carissa Heim is currently fifth on the national performance list in the indoor pentathlon, also with a provisional mark.
