Women's Soccer Adds Transfer for 2012 Season

Fort Hays State women's soccer coach Craig Shaw announced the addition of forward Cenayda Guzman, a sophomore transfer from College of St. Rose (N.Y.) for the 2012 season. Guzman is a native of Oklahoma City, Okla.

In her freshman year at St. Rose, which competes in the Northeast-10 Conference in NCAA Division II, Guzman helped her team to both the Northeast-10 Championship and NCAA Division II National Championship in 2011. She played in 12 of the team's 26 games, scoring four goals with one assist, but her season was cut short by injury. In her limited action, she had an impressive .308 shooting percentage and .692 shots on goal percentage.

Guzman played her prep career at Bishop McGuinnes Catholic High School in Oklahoma City, where she helped her school to a state championship in 2008. She was twice an all-city selection at the school. Guzman was a member of the Oklahoma Alliance FC of the Women's Premier Soccer League from 2008 to 2010, part of the U-17 Mexico national team pool from 2009 to 2010, and a member of the D'feeters 93 soccer club of North Texas. She helped the Oklahoma Alliance FC to a third place finish at the 2010 U.S. Youth National Championship Tournament.

"This is an amazing last addition," FHSU head coach Craig Shaw said. "Whether she plays this fall or not, she will be able to help all the girls understand what it takes to win a NCAA Division II National Championship. She saw time on the field for the national champions and was a key contributor as a freshman until her injury."

Guzman plans on pursuing a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography at FHSU.
