Charlie Foster Classic Results
Husker Invitational Results
Fort Hays State had several men's track and field athletes in action over the weekend (Feb. 1-2) at two meets. The majority of the team was in Kearney, Neb. for the Charlie Foster Classic, while a few athletes competed at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
Alex Hendee won the 1-mile run at the Husker Invite and
Max Alonso and
Brady Tien posted provisional qualifying marks at the Foster Classic. Hendee's time was also a provisional qualifying time.
Hendee won the mile run at the Husker Invite in 4:11.59, giving him a NCAA provisional qualifying time. He topped a field of 17 runners, 10 of which were from NCAA Division I schools. He also competed in the "Special" version of the 3000 meter run, which was the faster of the two 3000-meter runs contested at the meet and finished third in a time of 8:24.12, just under four seconds off the winning pace. The time for Hendee in the mile puts him in the top 20 performances in NCAA Division II this year.
At the Charlie Foster Classic in Kearney, Neb., the Tigers had two provisional qualifying marks by field athletes
Max Alonso and
Brady Tien.
Alonso won the shot put with a throw of 57'8.25", topping his mark of 56'6.75" from last week at the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan. Alonso could move up to fourth on the national performance list with the throw, pending the outcome of others meets over the weekend.
Tien had a provisional mark in the pole vault with a height of 15'3", finishing second in the event. The height currently ties him for 35th best in the nation, so he would most likely have to improve that mark to somewhere near 16 feet to have a shot at being selected for nationals.
