The Tiger tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over Truman on Friday morning (Apr. 13) in conference play in Topeka, Kan. The Tigers moved to 9-8 overall and 3-6 in the MIAA with the win. The Tigers close out a three-match road trip in non-conference action at Newman in Wichita, Kan. on Saturday.
Fort Hays State took a 3-0 lead early by sweeping the doubles matches. Both the No. 1 team of
Brittney Ricci and
Melissa Skovira and the No. 2 team of
Camille Caron-Bedard and
Caitlyn Wark won handily by scores of 8-1 and 8-2 respectively. The No. 3 team of
Laura Johnson and
Brianna Watkins edged their opponents at the No. 3 position 9-7.
In singles play, FHSU took the No. 1 through No. 4 matches, all in straight sets. Caron-Bedard won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, Ricci won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, Wark won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, and Skovira won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Johnson went three sets with her opponent at No. 5 and Watkins fell in straight sets at No. 6.
