The Fort Hays State tennis team fell to Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 5-1 in a consolation match at the MIAA Tournament in Springfield, Mo. The Tigers finish the 2012-13 season at 9-11 overall and were the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament.
The Tigers took one of the three doubles matches with the No. 2 team of
Camille Caron-Bedard and
Caitlyn Wark winning 8-5 over Weems and Norfolk. The No. 1 team of
Brittney Ricci and
Melissa Skovira lost to regionally ranked Gunawan and Connolly 8-2 and the No. 3 team of
Laura Johnson and
Brianna Watkins fell 8-5.
With a 2-1 lead in the match, the Lopers got the clinching points by winning three of four singles matches that were completed.
Melissa Skovira was the only winner for FHSU at No. 4 singles over Heather Connolly 6-4, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, Caron-Bedard pushed Vanessa Gunawan, who is ranked second in the region in the second set, but lost by scores of 6-1, 7-5.
Laura Johnson lost at No. 5 6-0, 6-1 to Tealyn Trimble.
Caitlyn Wark lost at No. 3 6-0, 6-1.
