The Tiger tennis team fell by a score of 8-1 at Washburn on Saturday (Apr. 6) in Topeka, Kan. The loss moved Fort Hays State to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State was shutout in doubles competition, despite the No. 1 team of
Melissa Skovira and
Brittney Ricci dropping a hard-fought match 9-7. The No. 2 team of
Camille Caron-Bedard and
Caitlyn Wark lost by a score of 8-5 and the No. 3 team of
Laura Johnson and
Brianna Watkins fell 8-3.
Skovira was the only FHSU player to take a singles match, doing it in three sets against Kirsten Holle at the No. 4 position. She dropped the first set 3-6 before rallying back to win the second 6-2 and third 10-4.
Johnson also went three sets in her match at the No. 5 position, but fell in the third set 10-5. All of the other singles matches were decided in straight sets.
The Tigers host their final scheduled conference home match on Wednesday at 3 pm.
