The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced the All-MIAA Baseball Team for the 2008 season. Eight players from Fort Hays State earned All-MIAA honors. Juniors Dusty Washburn and Brett Becker were first-team selections. Sophomore Greg Bieker was a second-team selection. Senior Brent Biggs, junior Eric Gilliland, sophomores Matt Augustine and Tyler Robbins, and freshman Ryan Majercik were named honorable mention. The Fort Hays State Tigers completed their 2008 baseball season on Sunday at the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City, Kan. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Central Missouri scored four times in the final three innings to win 4-2 in the second elimination game of the tournament. The Fort Hays State baseball squad opened play at the MIAA Tournament on Friday evening (May 9) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. The Tigers played their opening game of the tournament against the #4 ranked Hornets of Emporia State. The Tigers held a 5-3 lead going to the bottom of the ninth, but the Hornets rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning to win 6-5. Fort Hays State junior first baseman Dusty Washburn was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Baseball Team. The Fort Hays State baseball team hosted Pittsburg State in the first two games of a four-game series with the Gorillas on Saturday afternoon (May 3) in Hays. The Tigers, already locked in as a participant at the MIAA Tournament, were attempting to move their record against NCAA opponents over .500 for regional consideration. However, the Tigers dropped both games of the doubleheader to Pittsburg State by scores of 5-4 and 15-7. The losses put FHSU back to 3-under .500 in NCAA play, and will need a sweep tomorrow to still have a shot at getting back to the .500 mark in NCAA play. Read more...

The Fort Hays State baseball game with Pittsburg State scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to weather conditions. The Tigers and Gorillas will now play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. Games will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

The Fort Hays State baseball squad clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament on Thursday night when Northwest Missouri State lost one of its two games with Truman State. The loss for Northwest Missouri State clinched a spot for Fort Hays State in the four-team tournament field, which will be held at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. This is the first year the NCAA Division II conference with 10 schools in Missouri and Kansas has conducted its tournament at the home of the Northern League's Kansas City T-Bones. Read more...

The Tigers lost the second game of the series, a game that was resumed on Saturday after being suspended due to darkness on Friday, but came back to win the final two games on Saturday convincingly to improve their position in the MIAA standings. The Fort Hays State baseball squad began a four-game series with Southwest Baptist University on Friday (April 25) in Bolivar, Mo. The Tigers took the first game by a score of 10-3, but the second game was suspended due to darkness after a couple of rain delays caused the games to be slowed down. The Tigers became the first team in 11 years to defeat the Mules in both games of a doubleheader in Warrensburg. The last time Central Missouri lost both games of a doubleheader on its home field was in 1997 against Missouri-Rolla. Fort Hays State University head baseball coach Rick Sabath announced the signing of four student athletes for the 2009 season. Three of the four will transfer from Colby Community College and one comes to the program from high school. The transfers include shortstop Sean Caggiano, outfielder Brennan Peterson and right-handed pitcher Garrett Morgan.
