The Fort Hays State softball team hosted Fort Lewis College on Monday morning (March 8) at Tiger Stadium in Hays. Fort Hays State scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to come-from-behind for a 5-4 win. The Tigers started a game with Nebraska-Kearney at noon, but heavy rains caused the game to be called in the third inning. The game against UNK will not count. The Fort Hays State softball team added two games on the schedule for Monday, March 8. The Tigers will host Fort Lewis College at 10 am and then Nebraska-Kearney at 12 pm. Fort Lewis and Nebraska-Kearney played a four-game RMAC series in Hays this weekend, due to an unplayable field in Kearney, Neb. The Fort Hays State softball team is scheduled for action at the Missouri Southern/Pittsburg State Border Battle this weekend. There were several changes made to the schedule this week, as the Tigers were originally scheduled to play all games in Pittsburg, Kan. The entire tournament has now moved to the Four Seasons Complex in Joplin, Mo. Several Tiger opponents and game times have changed for the event. Read more...

The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association released the 2009 All-MIAA Softball Team on Friday evening prior to the start of the MIAA Tournament in Overland Park, Kan. The Fort Hays State softball schedule has been rearranged once again. The Tigers were originally scheduled to make up games against Missouri Southern on Tuesday. Those games have now been pushed to Wednesday (April 22) at 1:00 p.m. Now on Tuesday, the Tigers will host Newman University at 5:00 p.m., which was originally scheduled for Wednesday. Eaton, a senior shortstop for the Tigers, batted .591 over the three-day (Feb. 13-15) weekend tournament. She had 13 hits in 22 at bats with three RBIs and five runs scored. Fort Hays State University Head Softball Coach Julie LeMaire announced the signing of Alicia Hammeke, Maddie Holub, and Malinee Powell for the 2010 season. Hammeke and Holub are currently seniors at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays, Kan. Both individuals have helped the Monarchs to back-to-back state championships the past two years, with the 4A State Championship in 2007 and the 3A State Championship in 2008. The softball tournament hosted by Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo., for April 12-13, has been cancelled due to poor weather conditions. There will be no make-up date for these games. The MIAA announced Tuesday (March 18) its first set of Softball Players of the Week for the 2008 season. The first awards of the season are in recognition of accomplishments from the beginning of the season through March 16. Earning the first Hitter of the Week honor this season was FHSU catcher Jessika Anastos. She joined Tiffany Swanson of Pittsburg State, who was named Pitcher of the Week. The Fort Hays State softball coaches had to do some quick planning after the tournament at Missouri Southern for this past weekend was cancelled. The Tigers were able to get in three games on Sunday in Pittsburg, Kan., at the Pittsburg State University softball complex. The Tigers went 1-2 on the day. The Tiger softball team finished its trip to Texas this weekend by playing a doubleheader at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. The Tigers won the first game 8-3, but fell in the second game 12-1. The Fort Hays State University softball team played at the CSU-Pueblo Tournament in Pueblo, Colo., on Sunday (February 10). The Tigers won all three games they played on Sunday and went a perfect 5-0 for the event after winning their two games on Saturday. Fort Hays State University head softball coach Tonja Hadley has announced that the softball program will be hosting three camps this winter. There will be two Elite Hitters Camps, January 13th and January 27th, from 1:00-4:30 p.m. A Pitching Camp will take place Sunday, January 20th, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and an Offensive Skills Camp will also take place Sunday, January 20th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Space is limited. Mike Johnson Named New Student Assistant Coach

Mike Johnson was hired as the new Tiger softball student assistant coach. Johnson, a native of Citrus Heights, Calif., joins the staff from San Jose State University, where he served as the Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. He also served as a personal trainer and nutrition counselor in which he designed nutrition plans and goal specific work-out programs that focused on core development. Since 1997, Johnson has trained several collegiate All-Americans and professional athletes that currently are playing in the NFL and MLB. “Mike and I worked together as trainers and he brings with him a ton of experience in strength training and student athlete development,” said head coach Tonja Hadley. Head softball coach Tonja Hadley announced today the fall softball schedule for the 2007-2008 season. The Tigers will be in action beginning September 8 and 9 at the Dodge City Tournament, followed by a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to compete in the UCCS Fall Tournament on September 15 and 16. Candice Kauffman and Sara Tani will be joining the team beginning this fall. Kauffman is from Arvada, Colorado, and played catcher at Arvada West High School last season. Tani is from Westminster, Colorado, and also played at Arvada West High School last season, where she played in the outfield. Kauffman and Tani also both competed for the Arvada Blue Jays club team.
