Derek Koehn earned Athlete of the Week for his performance for the Tigers wrestling team. Koehn went 3-0 on the week in RMAC action, while FHSU as a team went 2-1. The Tigers are now 3-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in the RMAC.
Koehn, a sophomore from Pittsburg, Kan., defeated New Mexico Highlands' Travis Saxon by a 5-3 decision to give the Tigers an 18-6 advantage after five matches. FHSU won the dual 40-12 on the road in Las Vegas, N.M.
In a close 18-15 loss to CSU-Pueblo, Koehn won via sudden victory, 3-1, over Levi Jutila. The win gave the Tigers a 12-6 lead in the dual; however, the Tigers fell 18-15.
Koehn defeated Bruce Zurek of Chadron State, 4-0, to go 3-0 on the week. The win by Koehn upped the Tiger advantage to 9-0 in the dual as FHSU pulled away for a 24-10 win.
Koehn upped his season record to 11-5 for the Tigers, including a fourth place finish at the Bob Smith Open on Dec. 3. He also finished seventh at the Midwest Classic, which had 25 teams competing.
The Tiger wrestlers are 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the RMAC. FHSU returns to the mat on Jan. 19 on the road at Adams State at 8 p.m.
