Sam Thomas earned Athlete of the Week honors after his individual champion at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open this past weekend. Thoman went 3-0 at the open to win the 165-pound class.
Thoman, a junior from Andale, Kan., went 3-0 to take the 165-pound individual championship. Thoman started his run with an 18-3 tech fall over Chad Stich of Colorado Mines then defeated John Combs in a 10-8 decision to advantage to the championship. In the finals, Thoman pinned Jace Jensen at 2:28 to take the championship.
Other FHSU wrestlers, Benny Armstrong (2nd) and Adam Ludwin (3rd) placed at the event. The Tigers as a team are 3-1 in duals and 2-1 in the RMAC on the season.
Thoman is 15-7 on the season, including two first-place finishes in tournaments.
Fort Hays State travels to Adams State on Thursday (Jan. 19) for a 8 p.m. RMAC dual.
