Traci Keyser earned Athlete of the Week for being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team as a first team selection on the District 6 team. The Capital One Academic-All District Teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.
Keyser is the second-leading scorer for the Lady Tigers, averaging 10.5 points per game, and she is one of three players who have started all 22 games this season. She ranks second in the MIAA in free throw shooting percentage at 87.0% (80-of-92) after leading the conference in 2010-11. She has also set a new single-season FHSU record for free throw percentage in each of her first two years with the program. Keyser has recently moved into the top 10 in various all-time categories at FHSU and she ranks 8th in school history with 89 made three-point field goals.
This is the first Academic All-District selection for Keyser, who is a native of Cambridge, Neb. She holds a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Management and she was one of two Fort Hays State athletes to earn the MIAA Academic Excellence Award for the 2010-11 school year.
Fort Hays State will return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 8) against Truman. Game time is 5:30 p.m at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.
