Karron McKenzie has been named Athlete of the Week for his performances in two Tiger wins this week, including a game-winning tip-in by McKenzie to win, 67-66, over Central Missouri. FHSU also defeated Truman, 76-57, this week.
McKenzie, a 6-3 senior guard from Staten Island, N.Y., tipped in the game-winng basket with 2 seconds remaining in the game. Matt Simmons missed a jumper from the paint that McKenzie knocked in with his left hand. McKenzie finished the game with eight points and six rebounds, while adding two assists, one block and one steal.
In the 76-57 win over Truman on Wednesday, McKenzie totaled 10 points and eight rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double. He was one of five Tigers in double figures in the win. McKenzie also had four blocks, two blocks and one steal.
McKenzie averages 11.0 points per game this season, which ranks him second on the team behind Moses Dayees 11.1 points per game. He is shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line. McKenzie is second in rebounds at 5.7 per game and second in assists at 2.3. His 1.8 steals per game rank him first on the team.
With the Tigers two-straight wins, FHSU is 16-6 on the season, including 10-6 in the MIAA. The Tigers look to continue their winning steak this week with two road games, their final road games of the season, at Southwest Baptist on Thursday and at Missouri Southern on Saturday.
