Markus Hilger earned athlete of the week honors for his performance at the Shootout at Aguilar in Phoenix, Ariz., hosted by Lewis University. For the second-straight year, Hilger took top honors at the event. The Tigers as a team finished in fifth.
Hilger, a junior from Garden Plain, Kan., shot rounds of 71 and 74 on the par 72 course for a two-round total of 145 (+1), which tied him for first. Three other golfers totaled scores of 145. A season ago, Hilger won the same event with a score of 3-under-par, totaling rounds of 70 and 71.
The Tigers totaled a 610 in the two-day event, scoring a 303 on Day 1 and a 307 on Day 2. Northern Kentucky won the tournament with a total of 585, followed by Montreal (596), Lewis (604) and Rend Lake (606).
FHSU returns to the course on April 2 in the UCO Classic in Edmond, Okla. at Gaillardia Country Club.
