Adriana Wortley earned Athlete of the Week honors for her performance for the Lady Tiger softball team. FHSU swept Washburn, taking two games from the Lady Blues on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. The Lady Tigers are 14-6 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA.
Wortley, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., totaled three hits in the two games for Fort Hays. In the first game, a 6-5 Tiger win, Wortley hit one single and scored in a critical three-run fourth inning. Her hit was one of four in the inning. Going into the fourth, FHSU trailed 5-0, but erased the deficit with two-straight three run innings and won 6-5.
In the nightcap, Wortley singled two more times with one once again coming in a critical inning. Her first single came in a five-run fifth inning, where she also scored, as FHSU won 5-2. The Tigers once again fell behind early, 2-0, however, the five runs gave the Tigers the victory. Wortley also singled in the sixth, going 2-for-4 in the game.
FHSU is 14-6 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA. This weekend the Tigers host two doubleheaders. On Friday (March 16), FHSU welcomes Central Missouri and then SBU comes to Hays on Saturday (March 17).
