JC Ochoa earned Athlete of the Week for his performance for the Tiger baseball team. The Tigers went 4-1 on the week, including a 3-1 series win over No. 1 Central Missouri this weekend. FHSU is 9-11 (7-8 MIAA) and has won seven of eight games.
Ochoa, a senior from Littleton, Colo., hit .667 in the five games, upping his season average to .395. In an exciting 8-7 win over UCM, Ochoa scored the game-winning run from second base in the bottom of ninth inning off a single from Jay Sanders. In game one of the series, Ochoa hit two singles in his three at bats in FHSU's 6-1 win.
The final two games of the series saw Ochoa reach base on each of his at bats. He totaled six hits with five singles and a double and four RBI, while also reaching base on two walks. The Tigers split the day two doubleheader, winning 14-6 and losing 13-5.
In five games this week, Ochoa had 12 hits, seven RBI and 10 runs in his 18 at bats. Ochoa finished the five games with a .714 on-base percentage and a .778 slugging percentage, all tops for the team in the five games. He was only 2-for-2 in steals and was perfect defensively with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Tigers host Washburn on Tuesday (March 27) then travel to Emporia State this weekend for a four-game series.
