Brittney Ricci earned Athlete of the Week after her perfect 4-0 week for the Tiger tennis team. FHSU went 1-1 during the week, losing to Washburn, 6-3, and defeating Kansas Wesleyan, 7-2. Ricci was 2-0 at No. 2 singles for the Tigers and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Ricci, a freshman from Parker, Colo., was a perfect 4-0 in her matches played this week. At No. 2 singles, she defeated Rachael Renneisen of Kansas Wesleyan in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, then edged Washburn’s Sophie O’Neill in a conference match Saturday by scores of 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (9-7). In doubles play, Ricci and teammate Melissa Skovira won both of their matches at the No. 1 position, defeating Prather and Zuaznabar of Kansas Wesleyan 8-4 and then Castillo and Blackim of Washburn 8-4. Ricci is 6-1 in singles play so far this spring (4-1 in the MIAA), with her only loss to then No. 35 ranked Mehak Singh of Southwest Baptist, who is now ranked No. 16 in the nation. She is 5-2 with doubles partner Skovira this spring at the No. 1 position (3-2 in the MIAA).
On the season, Ricci is 10-4 in singles, including 9-2 at No. 2 singles. In doubles, she is 11-5, splitting time with partners Skovira and Caitlyn Wark.
The Tigers on the season are 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the MIAA. FHSU takes on MIAA opponent Missouri Western on April 5 in St. Joseph, Mo. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
