Kellsi Olsen has been named Athlete of the Week for her performance for the FHSU softball team. During the week, Olsen hit .462 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI as the Tigers went 3-1 with two wins over Nebraska-Kearney and a 1-1 split with Truman State. The Tigers are currently 24-16 and 8-6 in the MIAA.
Olsen, a sophomore from Wickenburg, Ariz., was stellar at the plate for Fort Hays State over the past week, helping the Tigers to a 3-1 record in that span. Olsen had at least one hit in all four games to tie her longest hitting streak of the year. Olsen hit a two-run double in the TIgers' 6-2 win over Nebraska-Kearney and added another single in the second game of the doubleheader, a 7-4 victory.
She followed that performance with two strong games against Truman on Monday. Olsen had two hits in the first game, including a double, and she came around to score both times. Her real breakout at the plate came in the second game when she hit the first and second home runs of her FHSU career, both solo shots.
For the week, Olsen hit .462 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBI. Her on-base percentage was an even .500 while her slugging percentage was 1.077. She came around to score six runs for te TIgers and touched 14 total bases in the four games.
This weekend, the Tigers hosts two home doubleheaders. On Saturday, Pittsburg State comes to Hays for a twinbill and Sunday Missouri Southern plays the Tigers in two games. Both doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
