Maddie Holub has been named Athlete of the Week after a stellar week for the Fort Hays State softball team. Holub helped the Tigers to a 5-1 record on the week, which locked up third place in the MIAA standings and the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Tournament. FHSU was 5-0 in the games that Holub started, and she finished the week with a 3-0 record and 0.27 ERA.

Holub, a junior from Hays, hurled the fifth no-hitter in Tiger history on Tuesday as FHSU beat Northwest Missouri State 1-0, and she nearly picked up a second no-hitter after throwing a one-hitter against Missouri Southern on Sunday. Holub held the Lions without a hit for the first 5.2 innings. She tied her own single-game record with 16 strikeouts on Saturday against Pittsburg State and then almost matched it the next day with 15 more strikeouts against Missouri Southern in the one-hitter. She started two other games during the week, and pitched a total of five innings, by design, and allowed one hit and struck out seven more batters.

Holub recorded at least 13 strikeouts in each complete game she pitched and finished with 51 in the week in 26.0 innings of work. She only allowed seven hits as well, with six of those coming against Pittsburg State, who leads the MIAA in hits. Holub is currently 17-8 on the year, tying the FHSU records for wins in a season, and she lowered her ERA to 1.64. She also leads the MIAA and ranks among the nation's best with a Fort Hays State single-season record 279 strikeouts.

Offensively, Holub was 6-of-20 in the six games. She hit one double, and one home run, her team-high seventh on the season. She totaled two RBI and stole two bases on the week.

For the season, Holub is hitting a team-high .340 with a team-high 50 hits and seven home runs. She has 26 RBI. Her on base percentage is .385, and her sluggling percentage is .524. She also leads the team with nine stolen bases.

The No. 3-seeded Tigers play No. 6 Pittsburg State on Thursday at 6 p.m. to start the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City, Kan.
