Mace Krol has been named Athlete of the Week for his performance during the Tiger baseball's 4-1 week. Fort Hays State baseball took 3-of-4 from SBU during the weekend and defeated Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday. The Tigers are 22-19 (19-16 MIAA) and host non-conference opponents Bethany College and Wayne State this week.
Krol, a senior from Nickerson, Kan., led the Tigers with a .526 batting average, 10 hits, 10 RBI, one home run. He slugged .842 and had an on base percentage of .550 in the five games. He also had three doubles and scored three runs.
Krol was 3-for-4 with four RBI in the 12-8 win over UNK. Krol hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning to bring in four runs. He started his day with a two-out double to left center in the first. Krol also singled in the sixth inning.
After a 4-1 Tiger win in game one against SBU, Krol once again went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He recorded one RBI in each of his three hits. He RBI singled up the middle in the first, RBI doubled down the rightfield line in the third and RBI singled through the infield in the eighth, which game the Tigers the 4-3 lead.
On day two against SBU, Krol totaled three hits and two RBI in seven at bats. In game one, he finished with one hit, an RBI single to rightfield, and in game two, Krol was 2-for-5 with one RBI. His single to centerfield scored one, and he doubled to left center in the eigth as the Tigers won 11-4.
With the strong week, Krol is now hitting .306 with 44 hits in 144 at bats. He is second on the team with nine home runs, and has eight doubles and 33 RBI. Krol is slugging .549 and has a .401 on base percentage.
The Tigers host Bethany College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and host a two-game series with Wayne State on Saturday and Sunday at Larks Park.
