Makayla McPhail earned Athlete of the Week for her performance over the weekend at the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. McPhail was the Tigers' only individual champion and broke the FHSU school record in the javelin throw.

McPhail, a sophomore from Liberal, Kan., topped the school record with a mark of 159-4 in the javelin. The record was previously set by Reginia Taylor in 1999 (158-7). McPhail won the event at the MIAA Championships by nearly 10 feet.

The mark is the sixth time McPhail has passed the automatic qualifying standard and this time the distance ranks No. 2 in Division II this season, only behind a 161-11.

The Tigers women's track and field team finished eighth at the MIAA Championships this past weekend.
