Diego Cabral has been named Athlete of the Week for his performance for the Fort Hays State men's soccer team. The Tigers finished up the regular season on Friday with a 4-0 win over Southern Nazarene in Hays. FHSU finished the regular season 11-4-2 and 7-2-1 in the MIAA.
In the 4-0 win over SNU, Cabral totaled a school record three assists. The previous high was two, which has been achieved by Cabral multiple times. The assists came on the first three goals of the match, including the game-winning goal. Tomas Mares scored to make it 1-0 on a cross from Cabral. On goal two, Cabral sent in another cross that was headed in by Austin Clifton. Cabral's final assist came on a goal by Daniel Peralta.
With the three assist performance, Cabral now leads the Tigers with seven on the season. It's the second straight season Cabral has led FHSU in assists as he totaled 12 assists in 2011, which ranked No. 3 in the NCAA last season and earned him All-American honors. This season, Cabral also adds seven goals.
The Tigers finished the regular season 11-4-2 and 7-2-1 in the MIAA. FHSU starts the MIAA Tournament on Thursday (Nov. 1) against Lindenwood, the regular season MIAA champions. The winner plays in the MIAA Championship on Saturday (Nov. 3).
