Nicole Barnaba has been named Athlete of the Week for her performance with the Fort Hays State women's soccer team. The Tigers went 2-0 last week with wins over Nebraska-Kearney, 5-1, and Western State, 1-0.
Barnaba, a sophomore goalkeeper from Gold Coast, Australia, started both matches in goal for the Tigers. She upped her record to 6-2-1 on the season with the wins. In the 5-1 win over UNK, Barnaba allowed the one early goal, but held the Lopers scoreless for the final 81 minutes. She made two saves. Barnaba got the shutout in the 1-0 win over WSCU, making two saves. She has not allowed a goal in 171:28 straight minutes since the UNK goal.
On the seaon, Barnaba has four shutouts in eight starts. She has allowed just 0.75 goals a game and has a .841 save percentage. Barnaba has totaled 37 saves and allowed just seven goals in 834 minutes.
With the two wins, the Tigers are now 11-6-1 and 6-5-1 in the MIAA. The record is a five win improvement from 2011. FHSU travels to Kirksville, Mo. to take on Truman on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament.
