Joanne Glynn has been named Athlete of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the MIAA Championship for the Fort Hays State women’s soccer team. The win gave FHSU the MIAA Championship and punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Glynn, a junior forward from Lakewood, Colo., scored the game-winning goal in double overtime in the 107th minute to lift FHSU to the 2-1 win over No. 1 seed Central Missouri. Glynn got the ball after a miscleared ball from UCM and fired it in for the goal.
The goal was Glynn’s third of the season in 15 matches, including seven starts. She adds two assists. As a sophomore, Glynn led the Tigers with nine goals and 20 points. She was named All-MIAA Second Team in 2011.
The Tigers are now 14-6-1 on the season, and FHSU has won five straight matches, including the three in the MIAA Tournament. To win the MIAA crown, the Tigers defeated the No. 1-3 seeds. To start, FHSU won 1-0 over No. 3 Truman then the Tigers defeated No. 2 Central Oklahoma 2-1 on a second overtime goal.
