Markus Hilger, junior from Garden Plain, Kan., earned MIAA Men's Golfer of the Week honors for his efforts from the beginning of the spring season through Tuesday, March 15. Hilger was the tournament champion at the Shootout at Aguila in Phoenix, Ariz., to start the spring season.
Hilger won his first tournament as a Tiger in the spring opener. He topped the 46-man field in the Shootout at Aguila, hosted by Lewis University (March 4-5). He shot a 3-under par over two rounds to win by two strokes.
He backed that performance by tying for fifth at the Drury/Pasta House Invitational (March 14-15) in Springfield, Mo. Hilger had the second-best finish of any MIAA golfer in the field and helped the Tigers to the best finish of any MIAA team in the field.
Hilger posted his best two finishes of the year in the two tournaments after just one top-10 finish during the fall portion of the schedule.
