Fort Hays State junior outfielder Nash Smith had a monster week for the Tigers, helping the team to a 5-1 record last week, including a four-game sweep over Southwest Baptist. For the week, Smith batted .381, including two doubles, two triples, one home run and five RBI.
Most of his damage was done in the Fort Hays State 12-4 in Game 1 over SBU when he went 4-for-4 and became the first Tiger to hit for the cycle since 2008 when Dusty Washburn accomplished the feat.
Smith scored the first run of the game for FHSU by getting the Tiger offense going with a one-out double. In the third, he had a well placed bunt between the pitcher and third baseman for a single. He would score later on a Sloan Soulia double. Later in the inning, Smith capped the nine-run rally with a three-run home run to left center field. Needing the triple for the cycle in the fifth, Smith did so by hitting a ball off the top of the right center field wall. He picked up his fourth RBI of the game in the process.
