Madison Schwartz has been named Athlete of the Week after a stellar week for the Tiger volleyball team, going 3-1 on the week, including a victory over No. 24 Truman.

Schwartz helped the Fort Hays State volleyball team snap a pair of long-standing streaks on Saturday against No. 24 Truman. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs in five sets for their first conference win of the 2011 season and improved to 9-6 on the season. The win also snapped a 32-match conference losing streak dating back to October 21, 2009 and a 49-match winless streak against ranked opponents which dated back to November 19, 2004. Schwartz, a sophomore from Lincoln, Neb., was one of three players for Fort Hays State to lead the Tigers with 16 kills in the match. Her performance was also strong in the clutch as she recorded each of the Tigers first four points in the deciding fifth set on kills before rotating out. For the week, Schwartz had at least 10 kills in all three matches she played (the first match against Bethany featured reserves from both teams) and a .207 hitting percentage. She finished the week averaging three kills per set.
