Alex Whitehill earned Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking season for the Tiger football program. In his senior season, Whitehill broke school and NCAA Division II record. He finished his career at FHSU on Saturday with a career-high 21 tackles in the Tiger's 55-17 loss. He added his first interception of the season, which he returned deep into MWSU territory.
Whitehall, who was voted a Preseason First Team All-American, finished the season with a school record 164 tackles, which broke the previous record of 150 set by Junior Hartig in 1979. The record was set early in Saturday's game. The senior linebacker also set a NCAA Division II record with 106 assisted tackles on the season. The 106 assisted tackles breaks the record of 105 set in 2002 by Brian Holliday of Fayetteville State. For his career, Whitehall totated 329 tackles, ranking him third all-time for career tackles during the Division II era at FHSU.
Whitehall's Tiger football team finished the season 4-7 and 3-6 in the tough MIAA under head coach Chris Brown, who is in his first season at FHSU. The four wins is a one-game improvement from last season.
