The Tigers are coming off a tough loss to then No. 12 ranked Central Missouri last week in Hays. The Mules broke a tie with 28 seconds remaining in the game to win 30-27 and maintain their undefeated conference record. It marked the third straight loss for the Tigers, but the second consecutive to teams that have been ranked at some point this season. The Tigers lost the previous week 38-27 to Washburn, which started the season ranked No. 9 in the nation before falling out of the polls with three straight losses to ranked opponents.

The Tigers get another crack at a team this week that was in the polls to start the year as well. Nebraska-Omaha was No. 12 in the nation at the beginning of the year, but fell from that perch fast after an 0-2 start in non-conference play. A loss to Northwest Missouri State, which is currently ranked No. 6, in the third game of the year sent UNO to an 0-3 start. The Mavericks rebounded to win their next two at home over Missouri Southern and Emporia State, but fell last week in their first road game of the season at Washburn.

The Tigers are currently tied for seventh in the conference standings at 1-3 with Pittsburg State. A win on Saturday would draw them even with Nebraska-Omaha in the standings. The Tigers host Pittsburg State the following week in Hays.

Fort Hays State snapped a seven-game losing streak to Nebraska-Omaha, which dated back to 1967, with a 31-20 win in Hays last year. The Tigers fell behind 20-0 early, but scored 31 unanswered points. Fort Hays State will be looking for its first win in Omaha since 1966. That seems like an eternity, but the Tigers have played just one game in Omaha since 1971. UNO leads the all-time series 13-4-1.
