Tigers Start 2-0 After 83-68 Win over SWOSU

The Fort Hays State men's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season Saturday (Nov. 13) with an 83-68 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State at the South Central Regional Challenge in Bartlesville, Okla. FHSU led the game from start to finish.

The Tigers shot over 50 percent from the field for the second consecutive game, hitting 51.8 percent of their attempts (29-of-56). The free-throw line was a struggle, hitting just 21-of-32 attempts (65.6 percent). Southwestern Oklahoma shot 42.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent at the free-throw line. FHSU led by 14 at the half, but held off a late charge by the Bulldogs after leading by as many as 21 in the second half.

Dominique Jones led the Tigers with 20 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the field with one three-point field goal. He was 5-of-8 at the free-throw line and added a team-high five assists. Corbin Kuntzsch added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe. He turned in a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds. 

Ken Bowman and Moses Dayee each added 10. Bowman was just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. All eight Tigers that played scored.

Chancellor Jones led SWOSU with 13 points, followed by Jeremy Lay with 11 and Curtis Nickson with 10. Nickson led in rebounds with seven and Lay led in assists with seven.

The Tigers play their first home game of the season on Monday (Nov. 15) against Bethany College. Game time is set for 7:30 pm, which will follow the women's game against Doane College at 5:30 pm.
