Lady Tigers Down Nebraska-Kearney, Move to 3-0

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team defeated former RMAC rival Nebraska-Kearney 86-64 on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 20) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Lady Tigers move to 3-0 on the season with the win.

Fort Hays State had four players reach double figure points in the game, led by Rhys Pihl with 17. Pihl was 4-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-7 from three point range. Kara McFarland had another strong outing, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds and four steals. Kimber Weiser and Kara Champlin both chipped in 10 points, with Champlin adding a team-high seven rebounds.

FHSU recorded their best team shooting effort on the season, making 48.3% (28-58) of their field goal attempts and 42.3% (11-26) of their three point field goals. Nebraska-Kearney was held to 36.7% (22-60) from the field but did make 40% (6-15) of their three's. FHSU forced the Lopers into 20 turnovers, making this the third straight game in which the Tigers have forced 20 or more turnovers.

Leading the Lopers was Megan Becker with 12 points and three rebounds. Becker was effective, only missing one basket, but she fouled out in just 23 minutes of action. Kelsey Lane chipped in 10 points and a team-high five rebounds for Nebraska-Kearney.

Fort Hays State now travels to Wichita on Tuesday to face Newman in a contest starting at 5:30 pm.
