The Fort Hays State men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday evening (Nov. 23) at Newman University in Wichita, Kan. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at Fugate Gymnasium, which follows the women's game that begins at 5:30 pm. The Tigers enter with a record of 4-0, while Newman is 2-3 on the season.
Newman will be the fourth NCAA Division II non-conference opponent for the Tigers. Fort Hays State has wins over No. 20 Midwestern State, Southwestern Oklahoma State, and Nebraska-Kearney this year. This game will be very important for regional ranking purposes later in the season, since the Jets are also in the South Central Region as members of the Heartland Conference.
The reigning MIAA Player of the Week,
Dominique Jones, leads the Tigers in scoring at 22.5 points per game. He scored at least 18 points in all four games for the Tigers this year, including a season-high 34 points in the season opener against Midwestern State. He also leads the team in assists per game (6.3) and steals per game (2.3).
Four other Tigers are averaging double figures, which includes
Ken Bowman at 12.5 points per game,
Corbin Kuntzsch at 11.8 points per game, and
Moses Dayee and
Dijon Smith each at 10.0 points per game. Kuntzsch leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 per game, followed by Bowman at 6.0.
