Poor Shooting Leads to First Loss for Lady Tigers

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2010-11 season by a score of 66-52 on Tuesday evening (Nov. 23) at Newman University. The Lady Tigers shot just 29.9 percent overall from the field, including 15.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line. Fort Hays State is now 3-1 overall heading into MIAA play.

Kimber Weiser and Rhys Pihl combined for nearly 60 percent of the FHSU scoring. Weiser had a career-high 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. All of her baskets were inside the 3-point arc. Pihl had 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting, which included two 3-point field goals and two free throws.

The Lady Tigers struggled all night from 3-point range, hitting just 5-of-33 attempts. They were just 1-of-16 in the second half.

Newman also struggled shooting the ball early, but warmed to an overall percentage of 39.7 percent for the game. The Jets also struggled beyond the 3-point line, hitting just 4-of-21 attempts (19 percent).

The Lady Tigers open MIAA play on Wednesday, December 1 at home against Lincoln University at 5:30 pm.
