Lady Tigers Take On Improved Newman Team Tuesday

Game Notes I Watch Live I Listen Live I Live Stats

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team will have a solid road test on Tuesday night (Nov. 23) in Wichita, Kan. The Lady Tigers take on the Jets of Newman University at Fugate Gymnasium, beginning at 5:30 pm. Fort Hays State enters its first road game of the season at 3-0 overall. Newman enters with a 4-1 record.

The Lady Tigers recorded their first win over an NCAA Division II team this past weekend, defeating Nebraska-Kearney in Hays by 22 points. The Lady Tigers have won all three of their games by an average of 25 points this season. Fort Hays State has won all 10 previous meetings with Newman University, winning all of those contests by at least 16 points.

Newman should provide a stiff test, with its only loss coming at Pittsburg State last Tuesday. The Jets have wins over three Division II teams this year, which includes East Central, Cameron, and Rockhurst.

Kara McFarland leads a very balanced FHSU offense in scoring at 12.7 points per game. She is followed by Rhys Pihl at 12.0 points per game. The Tigers have seven other players averaging between 9.3 points and 5.0 points per game.

The Tigers have pestered their opponents this year, forcing an average of 27.7 turnovers per game. Many of those turnovers are created by FHSU, as the Lady Tigers average 17.7 steals per game.

This will be the final non-conference game for the Lady Tigers this year as they begin conference play at home on December 1 against Lincoln University. That starts a 22-game conference stretch for the remainder of the season.
