No. 6 Tigers Defeat Washburn 70-58 on Road

The No. 6 ranked Tigers defeated Washburn on the road 70-58 on Wednesday night (Dec. 8) in Topeka. Fort Hays State shot 50 percent from the field on its way to 9-0 overall and a 3-0 start in the MIAA. The Tigers held Washburn to just 36 percent shooting from the field.

With the score tied at 7-7 early, the Tigers went on a 16-2 run to take control of the game and never let the Ichabods closer than eight points in the second half.

Dijon Smith led the way for FHSU on a perfect shooting night, going 7-of-7 from the field and 1-of-1 at the free-throw line for 15 points. Karron McKenzie also had a perfect night from the field, shooting 4-of-4 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line for 12 points.

Dominique Jones was the only other player in double figures for FHSU with 11 points. Moses Dayee had nine points all on three-point field goals.

Logan Stutz led the Ichabods with 18 points, followed by De'Andre Washington with 15.

The Tigers play their second game in a three-game road swing Saturday (Dec. 11) at Missouri Western. Game time is set for 3:30 pm, following the women's game at 1:30 pm.
