Fort Hays State men's basketball coach
Mark Johnson announced the signing of Matt Buhler and Sage Penner for the 2010-11 season. Buhler comes to FHSU from Rossville High School in Rossville, Kan., and Penner comes to the program from Stockton High School in Stockton, Kan.
Buhler is a two-time KBCA All-State selection, earning first team honors as a senior in 2009-10. Buhler helped his team to a third-place finish in Kansas Class 3A this year. He stands at 6-feet, 4-inches. Buhler averaged 17.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in his senior season. Buhler is a solid all-around athlete, also garnering all-state selections in football and baseball.
Penner adds depth in the post for the Tigers, standing at 6-feet, 9-inches. He averaged a double-double in his senior season at 13.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He also averaged 3.7 blocked shots per game. Penner was an all-state honorable mention selection by the Topeka Capital Journal.
