The Tigers enter the rigorous grind of conference play at 2-0 overall. Truman also enters the game 2-0.
The Tigers picked up their first ever win over Truman last year by a score of 41-31 in Kirksville, Mo. The Tigers are looking for their second straight 3-0 start to a season, after defeating Emporia State at home last year in the third game of the season.
Truman is under new guidance this year in head coach Gregg Nesbitt. Nesbitt was the defensive coordinator at Central Missouri prior to this season. Wins for the Bulldogs came at St. Joseph (Ind.) College and against Southwest Baptist at home. Truman and FHSU are among five MIAA teams that were unbeaten in non-conference play.
Mike Garrison looks to continue his efficient play at quarterback. He currently leads all of NCAA Division II in passing efficiency with a rating of 192.73. He is third in the nation in total offense, averaging 379.0 yards per game. He tied the school record for passing touchdowns in a game with five last game, which included three to
O.J. Murdock. Murdock finished that game with 175 yards receiving on just four catches, getting the distinction of MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.
The Tiger offense has been clicking on all cylinders early, scoring 45 points in each of the first two games. FHSU is currently 10th in the nation in scoring, seventh in total offense, and second in passing efficiency. The offensive line has done a good job so far by not allowing a sack this season. Truman also has yet to allow a sack this season. Fort Hays State's run defense has also been one of the best in the nation, ranking 11th.
