Pittsburg State Hands Lady Tigers Third Straight Loss

Box Score

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team had a tough day shooting the ball on Saturday (Jan. 15) and fell to Pittsburg State 53-42. It was just the Lady Tigers second loss at Gross Memorial Coliseum this season. With the loss, FHSU drops to 6-8 for the year and 3-7 in the MIAA.

A 3-point field goal from Kaniesha Pettaway as time expired was needed just for FHSU to tie their season low in points in a game with 42. The Lady Tigers also shot just 28.6% (16-56) from the field, which was their second-lowest percentage of the year.

Kelsie Sorenson was a bright spot for the Fort Hays State offense, scoring a season-high 13 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Sorenson was 3-7 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. Kara Champlin also had another strong outing, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds.

Pittsburg State (7-7, 5-5 MIAA) was led by 14 points from Brooke Conley of the bench. Drew Roberts added 12 points. Larissa Richards was near a double-double for the Gorillas, scoring 9 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

FHSU will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 19) when they host the defending NCAA II National Champions from Emporia State in a game starting at 5:30.
