The Fort Hays State women's basketball team will look to break a four-game losing streak and a nine-game road losing skid when they head to Jefferson City, Mo. on Saturday (Jan. 22) to face Lincoln University. Game time is set for 1:30 pm.
The game marks the beginning of the second round of conference play, and both teams enter this game needing a victory. Fort Hays State is 6-9, 3-8 in MIAA play while Lincoln is 1-14, but still looking for their first conference win. FHSU defeated Lincoln 62-39 earlier this season in Hays. It was the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Fort Hays State is led by senior forward Kara Champlin, who averages 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 56.9% from the field. Junior transfer Crista Bechard is coming off of her best game with the Lady Tigers after she scored a season-high 15 points against Emporia State to go along with six rebounds. Bechard has started all 15 games for FHSU this year and averages a team-high 30.2 minutes per game.
Vivian Essuon leads Lincoln in scoring (16.3 points per game) and rebounding (9.2 rebounds per game). She ranks fifth in the MIAA in scoring and third in rebounding. Lincoln has major depth issues, with only seven players who have played in most of their games. Only six players saw action for the Blue Tigers in their 52-42 loss at Washburn on Wednesday.
