The Fort Hays State men's basketball team jumped back into a tie for first place in the MIAA standings with a 27-point win over Truman Monday night (Jan. 3) in Hays. The No. 6 ranked Tigers won by a score of 84-57 to improve to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA. Truman fell to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the MIAA.
The Tigers had another solid evening shooting the ball, finishing at 56.4 percent for the game. FHSU shot 60.7 percent in the first half and stayed over 60 percent for a good chunk of the second half before cooling at the end of the game.
Dominique Jones led all scorers with 23 points, which included 18 in the first half. He was 6-of-10 from the field on the evening, which included three 3-pointers, and was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line.
Ken Bowman was the only other Tiger in double figures with 16.
Matt Simmons was two points short of a double-double with eight points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Ethan Freeman was the only Truman player to score in double figures with 17. He also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
The Tigers are now tied atop the MIAA standings with Missouri Southern (9-1, 5-1 MIAA) and Emporia State (8-4, 5-1 MIAA). The Tigers have another big game Wednesday (Jan. 5) when they host Central Missouri (8-4, 3-3 MIAA), the defending conference champion, at 7:30 pm.
