The Fort Hays State women's basketball team dropped their fourth consecutive game on Monday night (Jan. 3) as they were topped by Truman 54-45. With the loss, FHSU falls to 5-5 on the season, and to 2-4 in MIAA league play.
Cold shooting plagued the Lady Tigers, who shot 22.2% (12-54) from the field for the game and just 18.8% (3-16) from behind the arc. Free throw shooting is what kept the Lady Tigers within striking distance as they made 78.3% (18-23) of their attempts. FHSU tied the game at 40 with 12:58 to play then managed just one field goal the rest of the way and were outscored by the Bulldogs 14-5 to finish the game.
Kara Champlin led the Lady Tigers offense with 10 points, but did so on just 2-11 shooting from the field. Champlin also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds. Crista Bechard and Kara McFarland each chipped in eight points for FHSU.
Truman, who moves to 6-4, 4-2 in the MIAA, was led by 10 points from Jennifer Conway and Breanna Daniels.
FHSU returns to action on Wednesday night (Jan. 5) when they host Central Missouri at 5:30 pm.
