The Fort Hays State women's basketball team fell to Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., on Saturday evening (Jan. 8) by a score of 68-55. The Lady Tigers are still winless on the road this year, now 0-5. Fort Hays State moved to 6-6 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.
Leading 16-14, Southwest Baptist (5-7, 2-6 MIAA) went on a 23-6 run to end the first half to take control of the game, leading 39-20 at halftime. That was too much for the Lady Tigers to overcome on another tough shooting night.
The road shooting struggles continued for FHSU, connecting on just 31.6 percent of attempts from the field, which included a 26.3 shooting percentage beyond the 3-point line. Southwest Baptist shot 44.8 percent from the field and 36.4 percent beyond the 3-point line.
Kimber Weiser led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 13 points, followed by
Traci Keyser with 10.
Jacqui Zelenka led SBU in scoring with 16 points, followed by Ashleigh Gallio with 14, Whitney Malone with 13, and Courtney Heady with 11.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Monday evening (Jan. 10) at Missouri Southern (7-5, 5-3 MIAA), starting at 5:30 pm.
