Adrian Ramirez scored with less than three minutes left at 87:17, lifting Fort Hays State to a 3-2 victory over Upper Iowa on Sunday (Oct. 9) at Pattison Field in Fayette, Iowa. The Tigers won their third straight game and have a month long unbeaten streak at seven games.
Ramirez's game winner came on a give-and-go as Ramirez received a pass from
Diego Cabral and hit a strike from 6-yards away, scoring his second goal of the game.
The goal happened less than three minutes after Peacocks tied the game at 2-2 on a fast break goal at 84:40.
The Peacocks started the game scoring on a penalty kick at 34:18 by Derek Oelmann for a 1-0 lead, which was the only scoring of the first half.
FHSU knotted the game at 1-1 on a goal from 8 yards out by
Tomas Mares, his third of the goal of the season. Cabral tallied his first of two assists on the Mares goal.
Less than seven minutes later, the Tigers took their first lead on Ramirez's first goal. The junior midfielder scored on a free kick from 20 yards on the left side for the FHSU 2-1 advantage.
Ryan Pakieser went the whole 90 minutes in goal, making four saves while allowing the two goals. His record is 5-2-1 on the season.
The Tigers outshot the Peacocks 21-14 in the game, including an 11-6 first half advantage.
FHSU improved their record to 7-2-1, including three straight wins, all on the road, and a seven-game unbeaten streak.
The Tigers play their last road game of their four-game roadtrip on Friday (Oct. 14) at Nebraska-Omaha. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
