Box Score
For the second consecutive night, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team scored over 100 points and rolled to a big win over an NAIA opponent. On Saturday night (Nov. 19), the Lady Tigers shot 52.4% from the field and 56.0% from 3-point range on their way to a 101-53 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
Northwestern Oklahoma State scored the first basket of the game on a jumper by Audrey Richmond, but FHSU quickly answered with an old fashioned three-point play from
Janel Durler and Fort Hays State would never trail after that.
Traci Keyser hit five three pointers in the first half to propel the Lady Tigers to a 61-31 advantage at the break. The Rangers would stiffen their defense early in the second half, holding to just one field goal in the first six minutes of the half, but they were unable to cut into the lead much. Fort Hays State held a lead of at least 24 throughout the half and they would improve upon that down the stretch. They took their largest lead on a
Haley Wolf jumper with 0:29 that was the final basket of the game and gave the Lady Tigers the final advantage of 101-53.
Katelyn Edwards once again led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 17 points and she was one rebound away from her second double-double of the year.
Melissa Nelson had a good night shooting the ball, putting in 6-7 shots, including 4-5 from 3-point range, and finished with 16 points. Keyser finished with 15, all in the first half, while
Kaiameka Brown put in 10 points off the bench.
Northwestern Oklahoma was led by 17 points from Richmond, who was the only Lady Ranger to score in double figures. LaParis Newsom had a team-high four rebounds for NWOSU, who counted the game as an exhibition.
Fort Hays State improves to 5-0 on the young season and they have a week off before facing Bethel College at 2:00 pm next Saturday (Nov. 26).
