Lady Tigers' Postseason Hopes Dashed at Pittsburg State

Box Score

The Lady Tigers' postseason hopes ended on Wednesday evening in a 70-56 loss at Pittsburg State. FHSU held a three-point lead at halftime, but PSU pulled away midway through the second half and coasted the rest of the way. The Lady Tigers are 12-13 overall and 9-12 in the MIAA.

The Lady Tigers are mathematically eliminated from qualifying for the MIAA Tournament in Kansas City due to a pair of losses to Truman in the regular season. Wins by Truman and Central Missouri on Wednesday evening, coupled with the FHSU loss dropped the Lady Tigers to ninth place. They can still tie Truman for eighth on Saturday with a win and a Truman loss, but Truman has the tiebreaker for the tournament after a pair of regular season wins over FHSU.

Kimber Weiser led FHSU in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, which included three 3-point field goals, and a 2-of-2 effort at the free-throw line. Traci Keyser finished with 13 points, picking up seven of those points at the free-throw line. Crista Bechard finished with 11, hitting three 3-point shots. Kara Champlin led FHSU in rebounds with 12 and Kaniesha Pettaway dished out a team-high six assists.

Courtney Tate paced Pittsburg State (15-10, 13-8 MIAA) with 15 points, followed by Laura Glenn with 12 and Kylee Baldetti with 11.

The Lady Tigers did well at the free-throw line, hitting 14-of-16 attempts (87.5 percent), but struggled from the field shooting just 27.7 percent from the field and 24 percent beyond the 3-point line. Pittsburg State finished 38.8 percent overall from the field.

The Lady Tigers finish their season on Saturday (Feb. 26) at Emporia State. Game time is set for 5:30 pm.
