Top-Ranked Bearcats Too Much for Tigers

The FHSU football team saw its losing streak grow to three games on Saturday at the hands of the No. 1 nationally ranked Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo. The Bearcats took a 42-10 halftime lead and never looked back, rolling to a 70-17 win over FHSU. Fort Hays State fell to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA with the loss. Northwest Missouri State remained perfect at 4-0 and 3-0 in the MIAA.

With the win, Northwest Missouri State pushed its conference-record winning streak to 49 games. The Bearcats continued their dominance on offense against opponents this year as they entered the game averaging over 63 points per contest.

Fort Hays State's touchdowns came on passes by Blake McAhren in the second and third quarters. He connected with Tanner Hageman near the end of the first half from 14 yards out, then with Keaton Callins in the third quarter from 15 yards out.

The Bearcats held the FHSU rushing attack, which averaged 245.3 yards per game entering the contest, to just 152 yards. Andre Smith led FHSU with 78 yards, followed by Edward Smith with 65.

Blake McAhren finished 16-of-28 on passing attempts for 187 yards and the two touchdowns. He threw one interception. Alex Whitehill led the FHSU defense with eight tackles.

The Bearcats finished with 589 yards of total offense and averaged 10.2 yards per play. NWMSU quarterback Trevor Adams threw for 346 yards and four touchdowns. The Bearcats had two 100-yard receivers in the game, tight end Kyle Kilgore with 120 and Tyler Shaw with 106.

Fort Hays State looks to snap their skid and even their conference record next week at Lincoln (Mo.). Lincoln is also 1-3 overall but winless in the conference at 0-3.
