Men's Soccer Drops First Game, 1-0, to UCCS

The Tigers fell to UC-Colorado, 1-0, on Sunday (Sept. 4) at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays. The loss is the first in the history of the program, dropping the Tigers to 1-1 on the season.

The Mountain Lions tallied the only goal of the game when Matt Friesen received a pass from Max Thomas that Friesen sent low to the right corner of the goal, beating FHSU goalkeeper Ryan Pakiser.

The Tigers had their opportunities in the game. Early in the seventh minute, Tomas Mares' shot went just outside the right goalpost. Ricardo Yeverino had a few opportunities of his own for the Tigers, but the Mountain Lions' goalkeeper, Brandon Costa, made some huge saves.

FHSU was out-shot by UC-Colorado Springs, 16-10, including a 7-2 Mountain Lion advantage in the second period.

Pakieser played all 90 minutes in goal for the Tigers, recording eight saves. The loss drops Pakieser's record to 1-1.

The Tigers fall to 1-1 on the season, and FHSU takes to the road for the time, playing Northeastern State on Friday (Sept. 9) at 7 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla.
