Box Score The No. 17 Fort Hays State men's soccer team scored three straight goals to win 3-2 over Upper Iowa on Friday (Oct. 12) at Pattison Field in Fayette, Iowa. The Tigers improved to 9-4-1 overall and 5-2 in the MIAA, while Upper Iowa dropped to 5-9 and 2-5 in the MIAA.
After allowing a goal in the 12th minute to the Peacocks, Fort Hays State scored three straight to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
Tomas Mares tallied his team-high eighth goal in the 19th minute after receiving a pass from
Tanner Brock. The Tigers took their first lead in the 37th minute when
Daniel Peralta knocked in a cross from
Diego Cabral for a 2-1 Tiger advantage.
In the second half, the Tigers struck early.
Emmanuel Brown scored in the 50th minute and Cabral picked up his second assist of the match. The Brown goal turned out to be the game winner and upped the score to 3-1.
The Peacocks cut the lead in half to 3-2 in the 73rd minute as Andres Cuesta scored off a deflection. The Tigers closed out the remainder of the match for a 3-2 win.
The Tigers held the edge in shots, 30-17, including a dominating first half where FHSU totaled 17 shots to four from UIU.
Kent Freund picked up the win in goal for FHSU, making four saves in 90 minutes and allowing the two goals.
The Tigers continue its road slate next weekend with a trip to Northeastern State on Thursday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. FHSU then travels to Harding on Saturday (Oct. 20) for a 6 p.m. tilt.
